The strips run lengthwise, so the walnut grain flows from one end to the other. At 1.25 inches of hardwood, the board won't crack or warp like thin boards do. It ships already oiled and waxed. Rub in some food-grade mineral oil from time to time. It feeds the wood and keeps it from cracking.
